Comparison

FLUX 3 Klein vs Krea 2

Krea 2 is Krea AI's in-house text-to-image model, published on May 12, 2026, with open weights. FLUX 3 Klein is Black Forest Labs' small open-weights image model, released on October 15, 2026, and it generates and edits images with one model. That second point matters most: Krea 2 does not edit images, so the two are not interchangeable. Below are the published specifications side by side, and four images generated here with FLUX 3 Klein, each with its prompt.

Every row has a public source, and figures no source states are left out. Read the task row first: the two models do not cover the same work.

When to reach for which

Neither wins here; the two take different jobs. Match the work in front of you to the model, not the model to the news.

Editing a photo you already have

Only one of the two does this. Krea 2 has no edit path — Krea's editing model is Krea 3 — so when a picture exists and has to change, the job belongs to FLUX 3 Klein, with the instruction written as a description of the finished picture.

Generating from a written idea

Krea 2 is built around aesthetic direction, style references and moodboards; FLUX 3 Klein takes a full scene caption and up to ten reference images, and can place elements with boxes on a 0–1000 grid.

Holding a subject consistent across shots

Reference images do this work. FLUX 3 Klein accepts up to ten, one way to keep a product, a face or a material steady from frame to frame.

Iterating fast on many directions

Krea's own launch page puts Krea 2 at 15 seconds or less per image, and the checkpoint this site runs is the distilled 16-step FLUX 3 Klein. Treat both numbers as vendor claims.

Self-hosting and fine-tuning

Both ship open weights under different licences: train LoRAs on Krea 2 RAW or on the undistilled FLUX 3 Klein base checkpoint, and read the licence before either goes into a product.

Four FLUX 3 Klein outputs from here

Every image below was generated here with FLUX 3 Klein (distilled, 1K), with the prompt under it. No Krea 2 output appears on this page, because this site does not run it.

What this site supports today

This site runs FLUX 3 Klein and nothing else — no Krea 2 tab, no model switcher. Here is what the online generator does.

  • One model for generating and editing

Text-to-image and editing are the same FLUX 3 Klein model here, running the distilled checkpoint.

  • Up to three reference images

Attach one to three images and name them as <ref_image_1> to <ref_image_3>; the released checkpoint takes up to ten.

  • 1K and 2K output

Fifteen aspect ratios from 1:1 to 21:9, saved as JPEG, PNG or WebP.

  • Credits per generation

    Text-to-image: 2 credits at 1K, 8 at 2K. Editing: 4, 5 or 6 at 1K with one, two or three references, and 13, 15 or 17 at 2K.

  • Not supported here

Ten reference images, bounding boxes, 4K output, LoRA training and weight downloads are not supported here.

  • Ten languages

Everything here and the help pages are available in ten languages.

FLUX 3 Klein and Krea 2

Is Krea 2 a drop-in replacement for FLUX 3 Klein?

No. Krea 2 generates images from text and does not edit them; Krea's editing model is Krea 3. FLUX 3 Klein does both with one checkpoint, so where an edit is the job there is no choice to make.

Can Krea 2 edit a photo?

Krea's own release pages present it as a text-to-image model, and Black Forest Labs keeps Krea 2 out of its image-editing comparison for the same reason. Edits happen with Krea 3 there, or with FLUX 3 Klein here.

How do the two treat reference images?

FLUX 3 Klein takes up to ten and lets the prompt name them and place elements with boxes on a 0–1000 grid; Krea 2's release material is built around style references and moodboards, and its style-reference workflow uses one to two images.
